Chase Quinn is an American art critic, writer, and exhibitions and programs curator whose work explores the intersections of identity, Black expression, and queer media, combining personal memoir and cultural criticism. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, Artforum, Frieze, and Vanity Fair, among others.

 

Named the inaugural Creative Director and Curator of Special Programs at the Mississippi Museum of Art in 2024, Quinn served in this role from January 2025 to June 2026, overseeing both the Education and Curatorial Departments, breaking down traditional barriers to promote innovation and cross-department collaboration. Before MMA he had a distinguished tenure at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina, as Co-Director of Education and Programs.

As the Gibbes' first African American staff curator, Quinn curated the landmark exhibition Something Terrible May Happen: The Art of Aubrey Beardsley and Edward "Ned" I.R. Jennings, which explored the queer influences on the Charleston Renaissance and challenged traditional narratives around the city's early 20th-century art scene. The exhibition featured loans from Harvard Art Museums, Princeton Special Collections, and the Musée d'Orsay, among others.

A graduate of Boston University and a native of Wilmington, Delaware, Quinn is the recipient of a 2018 Charleston Rising PRIDE Award, a 2019 South Carolina Press Association Award, and was recognized by Garden & Gun magazine in 2023 as one of the art world's rising vanguards.
